Dr. (Mrs.) Shilpa HB (DOB: October 1, 1986), conferred with B.Sc. (Agri.) from UAS, GKVK, Bangalore (KA), M.Sc. (Agri.) and Ph.D. (Agri.) with specialization in Genetics and Plant Breeding from University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. Joined ICAR in July 2014 and started working as Scientist at NRC on Pomegranate, Solapur, Maharashtra, from 10th October, 2014.


  Most Significant Research Achievements:

  • Identified the Xanthomonas interacting genes from different crop species through in silico approach and designed primers for the same.
  • Identified and developed pyramided resistant lines for blast and brown planthopper (Pi1+bph4) in rice.
  • Generated the genomic survey sequence (GSS) resources for pigeonpea, cowpea, common bean and the same were deposited in NCBI database.
  • Comparative genomics study has been made among ten legume crops (Medicago, pigeonpea, cowpea, horsegram, chickpea, urd bean, common bean, soybean, dolichos bean and groundnut).

 Research Interests:

·         Development of new hybrids/varieties in pomegranate.

·         Marker assisted breeding for biotic and abiotic stress tolerance/resistance in pomegranate.

 Awards/ Recognition:

·         Awarded Jindal merit scholarship for M. Sc (Agri.).

·         Awarded University Residential Merit Scholarship during Ist year Ph. D.

·         Awarded Jawaharlal Nehru scholarship for Doctoral studies. 

·         Awarded University Gold Medal for Ph.D.
